Phoenix Players

The Phoenix Players are a well established amateur dramatics group based in Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire who have been running since 1945. We have performed many plays, pantomimes and musical shows over the years from whodunits through to farces, comedies and classic drama, from well known scripts to those written by our own members.

  • The Scottish Play

    The Scottish Play

The play features Michael, one of the better actors in a fictional amateur theatre society, The Shellsfoot Thespians, who dreams of directing William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, which is known in the real theatrical world as “The Scottish Play”.[2] Real theatrical custom has it to not refer to the play by its real name, due to a mythical curse. When his wife and his best friend are cast in the leading parts, Michael begins to wonder if this is due by his stubborn desire to direct at all costs, or by the curse associated with the play. Despite problems, he has separated his personal life from his professional life, and a lack of support from all but the set designer and technician, he continues with the production.

We love to welcome new members to our team, both on the stage and also behind the scenes. The jobs of director, stage manager, lighting, sound, backstage, props, costumes and front of house are all as important to a show as the actors up on the stage.
